A second U.S. Air Force combat aircraft crashed Friday in the Persian Gulf region, with the lone pilot safely rescued, two U.S. officials told the New York Times.
The officials said the A‑10 Warthog went down near the Strait of Hormuz around the same time an F‑15E Strike Eagle was shot down over Iran, an incident in which one crew member was rescued and search teams are still looking for a second airman.
Department of Defense officials did not immediately return a message from Newsweek seeking additional details on Friday.

Previous Losses: Reports from early April 2026 suggest a total of four to five F-15E fighter jets have been lost during the war, including three in a reported “friendly fire” incident on March 2.
Other Aircraft Losses: In addition to the fighters, a U.S. E-3 Sentry AWACS was lost on the ground, and over a dozen MQ-9 Reapers have been downed.
After the jet was downed, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf mocked US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims of victory in the war.
“After defeating Iran 37 times in a row, this brilliant no-strategy war they started has now been downgraded from ‘regime change’ to ‘Hey! Can anyone find our pilots? Please?’” Ghalibaf wrote in a social media post.

I am not guided solely by politics, so I hope the pilots will be returned to the families and I hope the US military succeeds instead of the Islamic terrorists. Just as I have supported the troops regardless of the political affiliation of other presidents that went to war. It is sad to see fellow Americans putting politics above patriotism and actively rooting for the terrorists and their quest for nuclear weapons to destroy the world.
Who is rooting for the enemy? I see no one rooting for the Iranians. Instead, I see plenty of ridicule and criticism for a war that is illegal and carried out very badly. The anger is directed at those who are at fault; the Taco administration and the generals and admirals who are following illegal orders. The ones who are payng for this disgraceful shit show are the soldiers, sailors, and to a lesser degree, the American taxpayers.
