Scholz and Macron have a “secret dinner” in Paris, Politico

Xi Jinping is expected in France in a few days.

French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will host a secret dinner in Paris tonight .

According to Politico , Scholz and his wife Britta Ernst are on vacation, they will meet Macron and his wife Brigitte in a French restaurant. The leaders’ advisers will not be at the meeting, according to three sources familiar with the matter.

The key topic of discussion will be Xi’s visit, and the French president will also tell Scholz about his recent meeting with him. Noah Barkin of the German Marshall Fund said Macron would try to persuade the chancellor to join a meeting with Xi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

According to journalists, both leaders do not agree with the potential introduction of EU tariffs on subsidized Chinese electric cars. Macron also insists on the creation of “defense bonds” – it refers to the joint issue of debt obligations to finance military investments. Scholz did not support this idea.
