German Chancellor Olaf Scholz admitted that he could consider a future stop in the commissioning of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, Scholz said this in Berlin at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
In particular, he was asked about the future of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, and whether this project would be considered political, and not economic, if there was a military attack by the Russian Federation with the help of troops deployed to the borders of Ukraine.
“It is clear that a high price will have to be paid, and that everything must be discussed if there is a military invasion of Ukraine,” Scholz stressed.
He also spoke about the importance of ensuring the transit of Russian gas to Europe through the territory of Ukraine.
As UNIAN reported earlier, on July 22, 2021, the US Embassy in Ukraine published a joint statement by the United States and Germany on support for Ukraine, European energy security, and common climate goals.
