Today, November 20, the Security Service of Ukraine announced the detention of a man from the city of Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk Region, who, on instructions from the Russian special services, publicly called for terrorist acts on the Day of Dignity and Freedom, which will be celebrated tomorrow, November 21.

As plotted by the Russian special services, the actions of the provocateur were to create an informational background for destabilizing the socio-political situation in the country on the eve and during the celebration. In the event of any real provocations or riots, the Russian media were ready to disseminate information that the organizers of such events were members of patriotic organizations and movements. This was supposed to negatively affect the international image of Ukraine in the world,” the report said.

Special services and investigators found that the man was involved in cooperation with the representative of the Sapfir information group created by the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces (new title of the Russian GRU – Ed.).

The detained agreed to cooperate for ideological reasons.

On the instructions of the curators, the provocateur on behalf of the pro-Ukrainian activist registered in social networks. On the eve of the Day of Dignity and Freedom, he began to place calls for terrorist acts in cities of Ukraine, in particular in Kyiv, the Dnipro, Kharkiv and Odesa.

Investigators searched the place of residence of the malefactor and seized the computer equipment that stores the evidence necessary for the pre-trial investigation.

For the crime committed, article 258, part 2 (public calls for a terrorist act) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is provided. The defendant faces imprisonment of up to five years.
