The Kvant plant, the largest supplier of televisions for a number of Russian brands, has not paid salaries to 800 employees since December last year.

The debt to the staff reached 61 million rubles, which led to the opening of criminal proceedings, the city prosecutor’s office told local media, The Moscow Times reports .
Thus, from April to July, 24 lawsuits were filed against the plant to collect salary debt, some of the cases were suspended, and 15 are still being considered.
At the same time, in April 2025, “Kvant” completely stopped the production of the only model of “import-substituted” Russian TV under the Irbis brand due to a drop in demand, primarily from the state sector.
Management attributes the production halt to a shortage of components, as back in 2024, Chinese suppliers restricted exports due to the risk of secondary sanctions.
“Even products from the register of the Ministry of Industry and Trade are actually assembled from Chinese parts,” comments Kirill Skvortsov, a representative of the Russian STI Group.
At the same time, we note that in 2024 the plant received a net profit of 3.3 million rubles with revenue of 4.9 billion (-62%, compared to the previous year), but already this year it reduced the staff by 200 employees.
The collapse of the company “Kvant”, which in 2022 was among the top manufacturers of consumer electronics in the Russian Federation, shows how sensitive the Russian civilian industry remains to imported components, which finds itself on the verge of bankruptcy in the event of problems with imports and a drop in government orders.
It was previously reported that Russian aircraft manufacturers failed to create analogues of foreign bearings and electronic component base for aircraft.
In parallel, Russian coal companies are increasing losses and are forced to “cannibalize” equipment .
