Japan and Ukraine are moving toward a security partnership built on satellite intelligence and drone technology, and it started with a secret Japan had never shared with any foreign military before. Ukraine’s foreign minister just told Japan’s defense minister that the Russian strike aircraft hitting Kyiv take off from an airbase closer to Japan than to Ukraine’s own territory. That puts the security challenge in perspective. Throw in North Korean troops and the Ukraine War is now an Indo-Pacific challenge.

I break down the classified-grade satellite deal, the new Japan-Ukraine Drone Cluster, and why Russia is already calling this cooperation an act of hostility.
