German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the Russian regime’s actions against Ukraine resemble Nazi methods, and called on Europe to respond to Moscow with force.
As Censor.NET reports, the German Chancellor made this statement during the party congress of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in Stuttgart.

According to the German leader, Russia’s aggression is accompanied by “intolerable Nazi propaganda” against Ukrainians – a people who have historically suffered from the tyranny of both regimes. Merz stressed that Germany categorically does not accept such a policy and will continue to unconditionally support Ukraine.
The Chancellor also warned against attempts to appease the aggressor, stressing that a policy of appeasement cannot bring real peace. He noted that history proves that concessions only encourage the aggressor to new attacks. Merz called on Europe to abandon “naive pacifism” and learn to speak to Russia “in the language of power” in order to prevent larger conflicts in the future.
What preceded it?
On December 15, 2025, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on combating the glorification of Nazism, prepared by Russia, while at the same time introducing an amendment indicating that the Russian Federation is using this topic to justify aggression against Ukraine.
