The NATO anniversary summit, timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty in 1949, will be held in Washington from July 9 to 11.

The US authorities invited Armenia, which is about to leave the CSTO , and Azerbaijan to a meeting of foreign ministers as part of the NATO summit in Washington in July. This was stated on June 28 by US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien, speaking at a briefing in Baku.

“Secretary of State Antony Blinken is hosting an event for all NATO partners, including Armenia and Azerbaijan. So I expect both countries to participate. It will be at the level of foreign ministers. A total of 30 partner countries will participate,” he said, according to the Azerbaijani Trend agency .

Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan said that the country confirmed its participation “in the NATO summit partnership format event in Washington and related events.”

“There are no other agreements at the moment,” Badalyan said.

The NATO anniversary summit, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty in 1949, will be held in Washington from July 9 to 11. Armenia, like Azerbaijan, began cooperating with NATO in 1992.

Armenia’s withdrawal from the CSTO – details

Recently, Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan accused the CSTO of failing to intervene after his country entered into conflict with Azerbaijan in 2022. It later became known that Armenia would not participate in financing the activities of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

Pashinyan made a harsh statement against Lukashenko  and announced the country’s withdrawal from the CSTO. He stressed that he would not go to Belarus while Alexander Lukashenko is in power.
