Russia’s Army Suffered Record Losses in Ukraine Since Full-Scale War Began. Monthly Analysis

2.11.2024 – Translated from Ukrainian via Google and OFP

In October 2024, Russian occupation forces significantly intensified their offensive actions, which led to record casualties among the enemy. The ROV command is trying to solve a number of tasks by the end of the year, which entails the use of excessive resources, including scarce ones.

More details about this can be found in the material of the joint project of OBOZ.UA and the group “Information Resistance” .

Losses of personnel

In October, Russian occupation forces set an absolute record for personnel losses – 41,980. This is the largest ROV losses in a month since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Overall, the losses of personnel of the occupation forces in 2024 demonstrate the highest rate and, by the end of this year, will exceed the total losses of the Russian occupiers in 2022 and 2023.

Let me remind you that the losses of the ROV in 2022 amounted to 92,920 personnel, in 2023 already 253,290 personnel, and in the incomplete 2024 – already 336,400.

Such high figures are due to the fact that infantry is becoming the predominant offensive potential, while equipment is becoming increasingly scarce.

It should also be noted that losses of ROV above 40 thousand per month complicate the process of full compensation through mobilization processes.

Tank losses

In October, Russian occupiers lost 279 tanks.

This is far from a record, not silver, and not even bronze. However, this is a clear indicator of how things are with tanks of the occupation forces, because with such intensive offensive actions, tanks are used much less often than armored fighting vehicles.

And this figure only confirms the fact that the stocks of tanks in warehouses and storage arsenals in Russia are depleted, and those that are in service are trying to save as much as possible.

Losses of armored combat vehicles

In October 2024, an absolute record of AFV losses by Russian occupation forces was set – 923.

Let me remind you that the absolute record in this category was set by ROV in March 2022 – 889, and since then it has never been beaten. Yes, they got very close to it, but they could never surpass it.

Now this indicator is conditioned, of course, by the activation of occupation forces in a number of areas and the return to the practice of mechanized assaults. The enemy’s situation with armored fighting vehicles is no better than with tanks in terms of staffing units, but in quantitative terms there are still more of them, and therefore they are used more often in mechanized assaults.

It is obvious that the intensity of the onset of ROV will not decrease until the end of the year, which means that this indicator of losses will remain high for at least the next 2-3 months.

Losses of barrel artillery

In October, the losses of barrel artillery in the ROV did not show a record, but maintained a fairly high figure – 1,184 units.

MLRS losses

Last month, Russian occupation forces lost 40 multiple launch rocket systems.

This is an average statistical indicator for the last few months, and it is unlikely that we will see radical changes in this category until the end of the war. Perhaps only in the case of a deep and very rapid breakthrough of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the theater of military operations. But such actions are not expected in the near future, and when they can be implemented, there simply may not be MLRS components in such quantities to set a record in the breakthrough area.

Air defense losses

The Russian occupiers’ air defense category showed 31 lost systems in October.

Those who follow my regular reviews of monthly losses of the ROV know very well that this is an average statistical indicator, including demonstrating that the Russian military-industrial complex is currently unable to compensate for the losses of air defense per month with either new or restored products. Air defense is a category that has long been lost by Russian troops in the “minus”.

Losses of vehicles

Last month, the ROV, as expected and once again, invariably set an absolute record for losses of motor vehicles – 2417.

Again, the reasons for such losses are already well known to everyone – a shortage of tanks, armored fighting vehicles and armored cars in the troops. This is why a large number of non-specialized civilian vehicles are used for other purposes – not just near and directly on the line of combat, but also directly during the assault operations of the ROV.

Losses of special equipment

The loss rate is also traditionally high – 265, although not a record.

The reasons are invariably related to the fact that the ROVs are forced to carry out engineering work not only near the line of combat, and with attempts to evacuate damaged, scarce equipment from the battlefield as much as possible, but also with the activation of Russian troops in the Kursk region since September.

Conclusions

The command of the Russian occupation forces is trying to solve a number of tasks both in Ukraine and on its own territory – in the Kursk region – by the end of the year. All this leads to more intensive, aggressive offensive actions in conditions of the presence of a large number of human resources, but an extremely shortage of mechanized components.

Without balanced support of the infantry by this component, the former suffers more losses during combat missions. The absence of specialized equipment and attempts to replace tanks with combat armored vehicles, and BBMs with civilian vehicles lead to corresponding losses in these categories as well.

Given the fact that the ROV command ignores the factor of high losses and the acceleration of events by the highest military-political leadership of Russia, we can confidently say that November and December 2024 will be no less fruitful in terms of losses of Russian troops in Ukraine.

The demilitarization and denazification of the Russian army is proceeding strictly according to plan.

  1. Even if ruzzia loses 1500 roaches each day, that’s only 550000 a year. For putler that’s nothing. He can afford to lose so many orcs for 10 years or more. In order for scumbags to feel it, they need to die 5000 a day at least

    • His economy is already suffering from the lack of manpower. How in the hell can he sustain so many losses for 10 years? As the war grinds on, and with it the meat grinder, he’ll find it ever more difficult to replace dead meat with live meat and his industry will find it every more difficult to replace the destroyed material. North korea and iran also don’t have unlimited supplies.

      • Don’t underestimate the ruzzian rats. They will eat each other if needed. They will do anything as possible except rising up against their masters. They are bred and raised to die for the czar. That’s their only purpose

        • “That’s their only purpose.”

This is true. But, they also enjoy being perpetually drunk, beat their wives, and stink like shit.
