On the evening of March 1, the Russian army launched a ballistic attack on the Odessa Sea Trade Port, injuring two workers at the enterprise. The enemy attack damaged two civilian ships under foreign flags, one of which was transporting more than 20,000 tons of corn and soybeans.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine – Minister for the Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Oleksiy Kuleba, two civilian vessels were damaged as a result of the strike.
According to him, this is the bulk carrier “SUPER SARKAS”, which flies the flag of Sierra Leone. The vessel was transporting more than 21 thousand tons of corn and soybeans for export. Also damaged was the container ship “MSC LEVANTE F” under the Panamanian flag, which belongs to a leading European company.
Kuleba noted that these ships were carrying purely civilian cargo. In addition to them, other port infrastructure facilities were also damaged.
“In total, this is the 29th civilian vessel that has been damaged as a result of Russian attacks. Despite the shelling, the Ukrainian sea food corridor continues to function. Since its opening, 106 million tons of cargo have been processed, of which almost 70 million tons are grain. This is about 4 thousand ships that delivered products to countries in Africa, Asia and Europe,” the official emphasized.
According to the press service of the Odessa Regional Prosecutor’s Office, on March 1 at about 17:50, the Russian armed forces launched a missile attack on the port infrastructure of Odessa. Preliminary, with an Iskander-M ballistic missile.
As a result of the attack, two employees of the Odessa port were injured and taken to the hospital.
An investigation has been launched into the commission of a war crime (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
