Russians are concerned over the EW capabilities of the AFU: ISW indicated what this means

01/6/2025

Russian sources have expressed concern about the ability of the Russian military to respond to Ukraine’s ongoing joint military efforts to integrate electronic warfare (EW) capabilities, particularly the ability of Ukrainian forces to deliver long-range strikes alongside ground operations.

Panic was spread by propagandists on this issue on January 5, when the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked Russian troops in several directions in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Several Russian pro-war bloggers have stated that electronic warfare (EW) obstacles created by the Ukrainian military during the offensive in Kursk prevented Russian forces from using drones in the area. This “deteriorated the ability of Russian forces to defend themselves” against Ukrainian mechanized attacks.

One propagandist stated that among the few Russian drone variants that consistently counter Ukrainian electronic warfare measures are UAVs with fiber-optic cables, although some of his colleagues claimed that the Russian Armed Forces were also able to use FPV drones and Lancets for this purpose.

Officials in Russia said on January 5 that their military had “shot down three” Ukrainian drones over the Kursk region.

“This implies that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are trying to integrate long-range strike capabilities with ground operations and tactical electronic warfare systems,” ISW noted.

Russia panicked over the EW capabilities of the Defense Forces: ISW indicated what this means

A Russian blogger claimed that Ukrainian forces launched HIMARS strikes near Velyky Soldatske and other unspecified areas of Kurshchyna to prevent Russian forces from deploying reinforcements, artillery systems, and UAV operator units.

According to analysts, such widespread concern on the part of the aggressor about the ability of Russian forces to respond to advanced Ukrainian electronic warfare technologies and the possibility of long-range strikes indicates that the Russian army may have difficulty quickly adapting to Ukrainian innovations on the battlefield.

“Reports that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are using long-range fire to cover Russian rear areas and electronic warfare to reduce the effectiveness of Russian drones in support of their mechanized offensives indicate that Ukrainian forces operating in the Kursk region are employing more effective combined arms tactics,” ISW stated.

As OBOZ.UA reported, on January 5, the Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked Russian troops in Kursk in several directions . Russian propagandists complained about mechanized attacks by Ukrainian forces and their advance near Sudzha towards the village of Velikiy Soldatske.

The Ministry of Defense of the aggressor country, the Russian Federation, had to acknowledge the start of a new offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region. They stated that Ukrainian forces had launched a counterattack ostensibly to stop the Russian offensive.

  1. “Ukrainian forces operating in the Kursk region are employing more effective combined arms tactics,”

Except for certain small areas of the frontline, this can be said for the entire war zone. The cockroaches hardly show any innovative measures, but do plenty of copying, mostly poorly, though.
