Russian troops retreat across the Seym River, destroy bridges as Ukrainian Forces advance in Kursk region

Russian forces are reportedly withdrawing across the Seym River in the Kursk region, a move possibly aimed at avoiding encirclement. Multiple Russian military channels reported the development on August 17, although the information remains unconfirmed.

The withdrawal appears to be taking place on the northern flank of the Kursk region. “The Russian army has organized a retreat to the eastern bank of the Seym River at Tetkino. Populated areas have been evacuated. Two bridges at Tetkino and Popovo-Lezhachi were blown up as the enemy approached. New defensive positions have been established,” the Russian military bloggers claimed.

Tetkino is located just a couple of kilometers from the Ukrainian border. It’s part of a 700-square-kilometer section isolated from the rest of Russia by the Seym River, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have set a trap for Russian troops, On August 16, the largest bridge over the Seym, used by Russian forces to supply their left-bank grouping, was destroyed by Ukraine. Only two bridges remain in the area, one of which is damaged, while the other lies dangerously close to the Ukrainian border. Due to this situation, a Russian retreat across the Seym became inevitable.

Meanwhile, the Russian war correspondent Yury Podolyaka reports that Ukrainian Forces are advancing towards Tetkino. He states that the AFU has already taken control of the villages of Apanasyevka and Byakhovo, information that is also confirmed by OSINT resource DeepState. Given this, it appears that capturing these territories and forcing the Russian army to retreat from the entire left bank of the Seym river is only a matter of time.

  1. This is one headline I never thought I would see. russia retreating in russia. I don’t know how close Tetkino is to the current frontline, but it is over 40 km from the last known forward positions shown on the Deep State map.

  2. While we marvel at the stunning success of the Kursk thrust, we must not forget also that several Ukrainian towns are currently in very grave danger. If these towns fall, who knows what obscene horrors will be inflicted on innocents? And what strategic risks would Ukraine face? They are Chasiv Yar, Toretsk, Marinka, Myrnohrad, and Pokrovsk.
ATACMS, Storms and HIMARS are usually used for structural attacks, eg bridges, buildings etc. But ATACMS armed with cluster munitions could be deployed to marmalise orcs squatting outside Ukrainian towns. So why don’t they? Could it be that they are in short supply and have to be held back in case of a putinaZi breakthrough.
    Thoughts?

    • Chasiv Yar has had no movement for over two weeks now. The orcs appear to only have enough firepower to concentrate on one direction, and that is Pokrovsk.

    • Having a look at the map, these two bridges are close to the Ukrainian border in the West of mafia land. It appears they have blown these bridges to stop any attack by Ukraine from that direction that could link up with the Ukrainians coming from the other direction.

      • Whichever way the roaches are escaping, this rout should be put under massive fire and any bridges left over destroyed.
I would make the Seym River the new border. The region to the south of the river would be fairly easy to hold on to.

        • That black soil in Kursk will certainly be put to good use by Ukraine, and drive up food prices in mafia land, even more.

          • Both would be very good developments. Grass is good enough anyhow for the sheep in mafia land.

  3. Pokrovsk Is Russia’s main target, it’s a strategic stronghold that’s vital to Ukraine’s supply lines. They must be stopped and pushed back. Too bad Ukraine couldn’t take advantage of the fleeing Russia troops in the Kursch region and hit them while they run.
