The occupiers do not stop shelling Vovchansk with various types of weapons, tanks have entered the northern part of the city. Ihor Kharchenko, a police officer of the Vovchan territorial community of the Chuguyiv district of the Kharkiv region, told the “Kyiv24”  TV channel about this.

He noted that there are Russian occupiers on the northern outskirts of the city.

“Street shooting battles are ongoing. Shelling by anti-tank rifles, anti-aircraft guns, artillery and mortars is not abating. Rashist tanks have also moved into the northern part and are shelling the city,” said Kharchenko. 

According to him, today he and his comrades came under fire several times during the evacuation of the civilian population.

He emphasized that it is currently difficult to answer how many local residents remain in Vovchansk.

According to Kharchenko, people sometimes go out on their own to be taken out of the city, but there are also those who refuse to evacuate, citing their reluctance to leave their homes.

“Sometimes people give rather “interesting” reasons why they don’t leave: “I have a goat, a cow, so how can I leave them?”, “My roof has collapsed and it needs to be repaired,” “My windows were broken and I want to do”.

The policeman says that many people left the city because they did not want to be in the occupation. Currently, a small number of pensioners remain there.

“They invested all their lives in the construction of their house and say: “And where to go? I’d rather die in my own home,” Kharchenko repeated the words of the locals.

The situation in the north of Kharkiv Oblast – details

On May 10, the Russian army of occupation opened a new front in the north of Kharkiv Oblast. She managed to take control of several border villages that were in the so-called gray zone. The main efforts of the enemy are directed at capturing Vovchansk.

Today, the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Dmytro Lazutkin , reported that the Russians are trying to gain a foothold in the northern part of Vovchansk. They go there in small groups. The Ukrainian military destroys the enemy with FPV drones and artillery. Also, effective and combat-capable units that hold this direction have been brought to Vovchansk.

Lazutkin emphasized that the situation is not easy, the tension remains, but there is a tendency towards stabilization.
