Russian strategic aviation is experiencing massive failures: three planes failed to launch missiles at once

03.09.2025

On the night of September 3, the aggressor country Russia once again launched a combined air strike on Ukraine. However, as it turned out, not all of the occupiers’ strategic aircraft were able to carry out the launches.

According to the Telegram channel “Spy’s Dossier”, whose administrator is related to “one of the special services”, “technical problems” arose on three planes at once. Moreover, the problems arose “during the performance of a combat mission.”

In particular, the strategic bomber Tu-160 with tail number “04” (the aircraft is called “Ivan Yarygin”) failed to launch missiles due to a failure of the launcher mechanism.

Another identical bomber (“Alexey Plokhov”, tail number “16”) was struck by lightning, forcing it to “stop the combat mission” and return to the airfield. The plane’s cockpit glass was damaged.

Also, one of the planes intended to attack Ukraine on September 3, for an unknown reason, “was unable to take off” from Engels airbase at all.

Among the Russian Tu-160s are former Ukrainian ones

The Tu-160 (NATO reporting name Blackjack) is a supersonic strategic missile-carrying bomber . The aircraft was developed in the 1970s and entered service in 1987. After the collapse of the USSR, the Tu-160 fleet was located in Russia and Ukraine.

In particular, there were 19 Tu-160 aircraft at the base in Pryluky. However, strategic aviation did not correspond to the military doctrine of Ukraine, and therefore in the zero years half of these aircraft were given to the Russians “for gas”. The other half were disposed of, and only one aircraft remained in Poltava, in the aviation museum.

It was found that the vast majority of Ukrainian Tu-160s transferred to Russia remain in airworthy condition.

The occupiers use the Tu-160 to launch Kh-101 and Kh-55 cruise missiles, but exclusively from Russian airspace.

Strike on Ukraine on September 3

On the night of September 3 and in the morning, the invaders once again launched hundreds of kamikaze drones and missiles at our country. In total, during the strike, the Air Force radio-technical troops detected and escorted 526 air attack vehicles.

These are 502 Shahed attack UAVs and simulator drones of various types from the directions of Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Orel, Shatalovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk – RF, Chauda – TOT Crimea. There are also 16 “Caliber” cruise missiles from the Black Sea and 8 Kh-101 cruise missiles from the airspace of the Saratov region and Krasnodar Territory.

According to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, air defense shot down/suppressed 451 air targets : 430 enemy Shahed UAVs and various types of simulator drones; 14 Kalibr cruise missiles ; 7 Kh-101 cruise missiles.

However, 3 missiles and 69 strike UAVs were recorded hitting 14 locations, and downed aircraft (fragments) fell in 14 locations.

As OBOZ.UA reported, in addition to the Shahed attack, the aggressor country launched strategic aircraft into the air that night. The alarm has spread to almost all regions of Ukraine.

  1. Spare parts are constantly needed when equipment is constantly used, and those strategic planes are all OLD and no longer in production. It might not stop the murdering of innocent civilians all together, but it will definitely have an effect on their attack capabilities.
