A Russian representative will attend a meeting of energy ministers from the Group of Twenty (G20) countries in Houston next week, a White House official told Reuters .

It is noted that in August, the United States welcomed Finance Minister Anton Siluanov to the G20 meeting in North Carolina. This was the first personal presence of the Russian finance minister at the forum since the start of the war in Ukraine.

The G20 Energy Ministerial meeting will be held from Monday to Wednesday with the participation of US officials, including Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Energy Secretary Chris Wright and White House spokesman Jarrod Egan.

The White House has not yet announced who from Russia will participate in next week’s meeting.

The event is also expected to bring together energy sector representatives from Europe and Asia. The European Union’s efforts to achieve independence from Russian oil and gas are stalling as the region heads into winter with abnormally low gas reserves, according to auditors released this month.
