Emergency Situations Minister Yevgeny Zinichev died at an interdepartmental exercise in Norilsk, saving film director Alexander Melnik. Interfax writes about this with reference to the press service of the ministry.

This happened during an interdepartmental exercise in Norilsk, which began on 7 September. “We are sorry to inform you that the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Yevgeny Zinichev was tragically killed while on duty, while in Norilsk at the interdepartmental exercises to protect the Arctic zone from emergencies, saving a person’s life,” the ministry’s press service said. Zinichev was 55 years old.

Melnik arrived for the exercise in Norilsk to select a location for filming a documentary film dedicated to the development of the Arctic and the Northern Sea Route, the department explained. He died along with the minister.
Earlier, RBC and RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan reported that Zinichev tried to save an operator who slipped on the edge of a cliff and fell into the water. According to Simonyan, the minister “jerked into the water and crashed against a protruding stone.”
Alexander Melnik is a member of the Russian Filmmakers Guild. He directed two full-length feature films – “New Earth” (2008) with Konstantin Lavronenko and Ingeborga Dapkunaite and “Territory” (2015), where Lavronenko and Yegor Beroev starred.
