Muratov said the proceeds would go directly to UNICEF to help children displaced by the war in Ukraine.
Online trading began on June 1, which coincided with the celebration of International Children’s Day.
The medal was sold to an unknown bidder over the phone.
Asked why he chose UNICEF as the beneficiary, Muratov said: “It is very important for us that this organization does not belong to any government. It can work for the government. There are no borders for it.”
In an interview with The Associated Press ahead of the auction, Muratov said he was particularly concerned about children orphaned by the war in Ukraine. “We want to give them back the future,” he said.

Its too bad Ukraine can’t have this effect on all Russians.
Wow $100 million bucks for a Nobel prize medal. I love the thought and the generosity but S100mm? I wonder if there’s more to this story!
Too bad there aren’t more Russians like Mr. Muratov! I give him my deepest respects! What a guy!
