🙏 Thank you, Linda! Russian hypocrisy in the Security Council, and elsewhere, is pervasive.
It poisons every body, mind and institution it’s allowed to spread in, and must be stopped.
❗ At the invitation of Assad, Putin’s bombs, missiles and #military turned the Syrian Civil War into a 𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫.
💔 Aleppo used to be a city of almost 2 million people (comparable to Gaza, by the way)
Now it’s a crater, just like Grozny before it, and Mariupol after it.
📈 12 million Syrians became refugees
Millions lost their country and home.
And over half a million Syrians were 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝.
📊 It’s the biggest 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 in modern history, far greater than any other modern conflict.
Yet no one even speaks about it anymore.
Protestors aren’t even aware of it 🙄
And because we appear to have forgotten about Syria,
Moscow can continue to spread its lies about it.

💥 Meanwhile Russia is bombing Ukraine FROM that territory using Iranian, Chinese and North Korean weaponry for over a year already.
Luckily, this situation now seems to be improving, as one country after another is waking up.
⚠️ But it’s still concerning.
When will the next ‘limitation’ pop up that Moscow can abuse to safely bomb and 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 more Ukrainians without fearing retaliation?

☢️ On June 1, 1996, #Ukraine lost its status as a nuclear power.
On this day, exactly 28 years ago, Ukraine transferred the last nuclear missiles to the russian Federation in accordance with the Budapest Memorandum.
📉 In 1991, Ukraine had 130 SS-19, 46 SS-24, up to 43 Tu-95MS and Tu-160, up to 2156 strategic nuclear warheads and up to 4200 tactical nuclear warheads.
The russians would never have attacked today if Ukraine had not given up its nuclear weapons then.
📄 In the Budapest Memorandum, russia, the #USA and the #UK reaffirmed their existing commitments to respect the sovereignty and existing borders, the #UN ban on the use of force and other obligations
In return, Ukraine gave up its Soviet nuclear weapons, alongside Kazakhstan and Belarus, handing its arsenal over to russia.
❗ And just 20 years later, russia broke its promise by invading #Crimea
Showing that ‘peace’ treaties with Russia aren’t worth the paper they’re written on.
☝️ If we don’t ensure Ukraine wins today,
If we, the West, don’t help push the invaders out of all of Ukraine and secure its 1991 borders,
No country will ever consider nuclear disarmament ever again.
🚀 In fact, it would trigger another Nuclear Arms race as countries like Taiwan, Moldova and Kazakhstan would scramble to arm themselves with nukes.
As the promises of ‘protection’ by superpowers turned out to be a joke.

Now it’s clear that the wrong country was disarmed.

Could not agree more. Trumpkov and his asshole punk son want to con Ukraine into another shit deal. Budapest, Minsk 1, Minsk 2; pure kremkrapp. The Trumpkov “peace plan”; pure kremkrapp.
Of course, giving up its nukes was a mistake. It was an extremely huge mistake, of epic proportions. It allowed the fascist bunker rat to steal the Crimea and to start this war. In exchange, Ukraine got a piece of paper that is every bit as worthless and the rag that Chamberlain once waved at the crowds upon his arrival from a meeting with Adolf Hitler.
The Budapest Memorandum is now a notorious agreement. Infamous for its negative consequences, not only for Ukraine, but also for any future voluntary surrendering of nukes. It has single-handedly destroyed any further hopes of denuclearization of this planet. No nation will be so stupid to surrender its nukes in exchange for any “security” agreements that are as worthless as a handful of dog shit.
