NATO is “deliberately stirring up hysteria about the imaginary Russian threat in order to justify its aggressive aspirations,” the propaganda outlet RIA Novosti reported on April 23, citing Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.
Commenting on the alliance’s allegedly “provocative” military exercises in Finland, Zakharova, who is notorious for making false statements, said that NATO is “actively spreading insinuations about Russia’s plans to attack the bloc’s member states.
On April 16, the press service of the Finnish Armed Forces reported that the country would host a series of military exercises with NATO troops from late April to early June, including some of them taking place near the Russian border.
