The United States has completely opened its information space to Russian influence.
The Donald Trump administration has dismantled a government agency that was tasked with countering foreign propaganda and disinformation , including Russian disinformation. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio boasted about the new “achievement” on Platform X.
He said that over the past decade, Americans have been “slandered, fired, accused, and even imprisoned” simply for expressing their opinions. He did not provide any specific facts to support this claim, but he said that “it ends today.”
“I am announcing the closure of the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Countering Information Manipulation and Interference, the former Center for Global Engagement, which cost taxpayers over $50 million per year and actively silenced and censored the voices of the Americans it was supposed to serve,” Rubio wrote.
