Russian developer of apps for “Android killer” files for bankruptcy

Two Russian IT companies – Avroid, a developer of applications for the Russian Aurora operating system, and Hyperus, a developer of server software – filed for bankruptcy in early May of this year. The reason is attributed to the difficult financial situation caused by the small number of devices on Aurora, which was positioned as an “Android killer.”

This is reported by The Moscow Times.

According to one of the Avroid employees, the company’s debt to creditors has reached almost 1 billion rubles.

“There is no work, and employees are gradually being laid off,” he said.

According to him, since February-March, the staff stopped paying their salaries, asked to collect their personal belongings, the offices were closed, and people were transferred to remote work . The companies employed almost 200 people. Many filed personal lawsuits with Rospotrebnadzor and the Labor Inspectorate.

Previously, the owner of both companies stated that “negotiations with investors are underway,” but so far there have been no investors willing to save the business. Currently, Avroid is working on restructuring the business to reduce its dependence on the Aurora operating system – the company will reduce investments in development for this system and look for alternatives.

It was previously reported that foreign solutions are still used in 95% of Russia’s critical information infrastructure . In particular, these include Russian state organizations, banks, medical institutions, telecommunications and logistics companies.

At the end of January this year, it became known that after the withdrawal of international software suppliers from Russia, a gap in “import-substituted” types of industrial software was formed in the Russian economy . Thus, 837 “white spots” were counted in the industry in various areas.

It was also reported that after foreign brands left the country, Russian businesses were unable to abandon Western engineering software . The level of its illegal use increased from 65% in 2023 to 70% in 2024.
