Russia will demand that the US lift sanctions against civil aviation. The plan to produce its own aircraft has failed

Russia is interested in resuming the supply of spare parts for aircraft from the United States, and will also demand certification of repairs to foreign airliners performed by Russian companies under sanctions.

This was reported by the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Anton Alikhanov to the Russian publication “Izvestia”.

“We have about $500 million worth of spare parts in the US for the needs of our aviation industry, which have already been paid for. Therefore, I think that we, as representatives of consumers, would be interested, in particular, in unblocking the supply of these spare parts. This would be important,” Alikhanov said.

The minister added that Moscow would also like recognition of repair work carried out by Russian companies on Airbus and Boeing aircraft under sanctions without the appropriate license from foreign manufacturers.

“If such a move is in our interests, we will already work on this series of issues. For example, the recognition of repairs carried out on foreign aircraft, I mean Airbus and Boeing, which were carried out by Russian companies, respectively, under sanctions without appropriate verification of licenses from foreign manufacturers. This is also a subject of our interest,” the Russian minister added.

These issues are expected to be discussed during talks between Russia and the United States, the publication notes. According to NBC, US President Donald Trump plans to soon have another phone conversation with Russian dictator Putin.

As reported, under the sanctions imposed after the invasion of Ukraine, Russia planned to launch a large-scale program to produce its own passenger aircraft , but it failed.

Initially, the large-scale production of Russian aircraft was planned to begin in 2024, but the Russian government was forced to postpone these plans until 2027-2028, and the aircraft industry’s return to full capacity was generally postponed to 2030.

At the same time, foreign-made aircraft used by Russian airlines are increasingly breaking down due to the inability to perform complex repairs and a shortage of spare parts.
