Russia will be torn apart by sanctions, and Ukraine will be in NATO: the main points from Senator Lindsey Graham’s speech in Munich

02/15/2025

US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said at the Munich Security Conference that US President Donald Trump will not allow “the story of Russia’s war against Ukraine to end badly.” He called on NATO member countries to increase pressure on Russia and at the same time threaten to admit Ukraine into the alliance if dictator Vladimir Putin initiates a new invasion.

He believes any potential peace deal must include measures to prevent Putin from invading again, speaking during a panel discussion at a conference in Munich on Friday, February 14.

Graham noted that Ukraine will not be accepted into NATO as of now. However, in the event of another attack from Russia, the country will join NATO very quickly and the Russians will not be able to do without sanctions alone.

“I want Putin to know. If he does this again, Ukraine will immediately join NATO. And if there is a new invasion, there will be not only sanctions or other troubles. And our troops will be in Ukraine. The idea is that if we cannot accept them into NATO, then Putin should know – if he tries to invade again, then Ukraine will immediately join NATO,” said Lindsey Graham.

According to him, a signal needs to be sent to Putin “before he thinks about doing anything.”

“If we take Ukraine into NATO, Putin will just go crazy. He’s already gone crazy, I think. We’re talking about scaring him, making him think twice before doing anything. If you do, we’ll destroy your economy, tear your country apart with sanctions,” Graham said.

At the same time, the senator emphasized that Ukrainians will continue to fight the Russian occupiers if they receive enough weapons, including F-16 fighters, ATACMS long-range missiles, and tanks.

If we arm Ukraine and sign an agreement on rare earth metals, Putin will lose.

The politician also noted that the story of Russia’s war against Ukraine should not end badly, like in Afghanistan. He is sure that Donald Trump will not allow this.

As OBOZ.UA reported, Lindsey Graham previously supported the operation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Kursk region of Russia. During a visit to Kyiv, he called the actions of the Ukrainian military brave and brilliant.

  1. Yet another politician promising a lot, but actually delivering nothing. I’m pissed off with these, if, when, maybe and could be, statements.

  2. I don’t trust Graham.
He met Roman Sheremeta at a conference, assured him of his 100% support and then a few days later backed Trump’s disgusting aid block, which cost so many lives.
He seems to be an opportunist who flips whenever it suits him.

  3. Promises, promises and more promises and then nothing. I had respect for Senator Graham and now this. Seems he’s joined the knuckleheads at the WH. If the orcs attack? Such simple minded crap from people who know nothing of the orcs history.

  4. “Ukraine will immediately join NATO.”

Seems to me that would require a unanimous decision by all the current NATO members. How can one U.S. senator make that promise?

    • He can’t. He’s just talking out of his arse. And, he doesn’t seem to know that the two shit nugget NATO members Hungary and Slovakia will veto it anyway.
