This issue is already being studied by a number of departments.

Russia intends to remove the Taliban’s status as a terrorist organization. In addition, their delegation was invited to the “Russia – Islamic World” forum.

The corresponding statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation is quoted by Russian media. “This issue is being studied by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian Ministry of Justice and other Russian relevant departments. The final decision will be made by the country’s top political leadership,” they said.

Meanwhile, the special representative of the Russian President for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, said that the Taliban delegation was invited to take part in the Russia-Islamic World forum, which is to be held in Kazan in May.

Relations between Russia and the Taliban

Let us recall that in August 2021, the Taliban  announced the seizure of the entire territory of Afghanistan . At the end of the month, the United States announced that it had completed the withdrawal of its troops from the country.

Already in October, Russia received a Taliban delegation within the framework of the Moscow format; this became their first foreign visit in the status of government representatives.

Last spring, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in China announced the accreditation of the first Taliban diplomat to Russia. According to him, “the new administration is managing to keep the state afloat.”
