South Korean intelligence monitors military cooperation between North Korea and the Russian Federation.

Russia is using North Korean artillery shells for the war in Ukraine , which may have been manufactured in the 1970s. This was reported by Business Insider with reference to South Korean media.

South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) is said to be investigating reports that North Korea supplied its ally Russia with weapons manufactured five decades ago.

“The NIS is analyzing the relevant circumstances in detail and also continues to monitor the general military cooperation between North Korea and Russia,” the intelligence agency said.

The publication reminds that Ukraine, the USA and the UN have accused North Korea of transferring millions of shells and other weapons to Russia, which are used in its campaign in Ukraine. At the same time, the Russian Federation and Ukraine produce tens of thousands of projectiles per day.

“Russia is increasing the number of missiles it can produce domestically to keep up with demand, but in the meantime it has turned to its ally North Korea for help,” the article says.

The media also noted that Ukrainian officials said in December that North Korean shells often have defects and explode before being fired, damaging Russian artillery and mortars and even killing troops. Russia has also used North Korean ballistic missiles to attack Ukrainian cities, but about half of them deviate from the course.
