Kudos to my amazing Ukraine Freedom Project colleague Karl Ahlgren, who spent last week in DC at the IRF Summit bringing to light the horrors being suffered by Ukrainian protestants at the hands of Russian troops.
Ukraine’s evangelical Christians are being persecuted and tortured by Russian soldiers in the areas of Ukraine that are occupied by Russia. Christians – people we know – report torture with electrical shocks and being beaten with a baseball bat. Some bodies are too disfigured by torture to be easily identified.
Some 500 Baptist congregations have been lost. More than 26 religious leaders have been murdered by the Russians. The occupied city of Melitopol once had more protestant churches than Orthodox churches. The Russians have destroyed them all.
Why have you not heard about this? In part because this is happening in the occupied parts of Ukraine. Russian FSB (KGB successor) officers call believers who speak out and tell them they are watching their relatives who are still in the occupied areas. We have two teams in Ukraine gathering stories without endangering lives.
