Indonesia has not bought Russian oil for more than 10 years.

Indonesian state-owned refiner Pertamina has added Russian grades of crude to its tender lists, Reuters reported, citing three traders .

As the publication writes, Pertamina has not purchased Russian oil for many years: the last time the oil refiner purchased ESPO Blend and Sokol grades from Russia was more than 10 years ago.

Pertamina has now requested Russian Urals crude along with some other grades for delivery to Cilacap’s refining facilities in September this year. Pertamina has also requested Sokol among some grades: arrival is also expected in the first month of autumn.

According to sources, one of the tenders was closed last week, and the other on Monday. The results have not yet been announced.

At the same time, one of the sources reported that Pertamina decided to buy Russian oil only if the price limiting mechanism was in place.

  1. Selling oil to Indonesia is like selling sand to Arabia. Even with 65% discount……………………………….

  2. And I guess the shadow fleet will be involved.

Worse Than Pirates: Russian Shadow Fleet Brings Disaster

It was bound to happen, and now the inevitable has come to pass: a Russian shadow vessel has collided with a legally operating tanker, causing both to catch fire. Equally unsurprisingly, the shadow tanker then fled the scene.

For centuries, pirates have been the scourge of the high seas. Today, though, they’ve been surpassed by Russia’s dangerous shadow fleet, an armada of aging vessels that crisscross the oceans carrying oil and other dangerous cargo despite operating outside the official shipping sector and lacking proper insurance.

And the risks caused by dark vessels don’t end there. Because they try to hide their movements by turning off or manipulating their automatic identification systems (AIS), the dark ships increase the risk of collisions. Though shadow vessels have existed for years, primarily transporting Iranian and Venezuelan oil, their number has skyrocketed since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
