Russia’s embassy in Australia warned of “serious consequences” if Australian troops are sent to Ukraine, The Guardian reported on March 10.

“Russia has repeatedly made it clear that foreign military presence in Ukraine is absolutely unacceptable. Therefore, the idea of deploying Western military contingents in Ukraine under the guise of peacekeepers aims to undermine peace efforts… For Australia, joining the so-called coalition of the willing will bring serious consequences. Once again, we repeat, Western boots on the ground are unacceptable to Russia, and we will not remain passive observers,” the Russian embassy claimed.

At the same time, the embassy described the statement as a “warning,” not a threat, adding that Russia had no intention of harming Australia.

On March 4, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that his country is prepared to consider sending peacekeepers to Ukraine if such a request is made to his government.

“We want to see peace in Ukraine and ensure that Russia’s illegal and immoral aggression is not repeated,” Albanese emphasized.

He also noted that Australia’s decision to send a peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine would not depend on the opinion of the U.S. administration.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow was “categorically” opposed to deploying a European peacekeeping contingent on Ukrainian territory.

Possible NATO troop deployment in Ukraine

Discussions about sending troops to Ukraine resumed in November 2024 after Donald Trump won the U.S. presidential election.

On Feb. 11, 2025, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the U.S. would not send troops to Ukraine. He added that Trump hoped for a swift peace agreement.

On Feb. 13, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that ensuring peace in Ukraine would require 100,000 peacekeepers, and that the military had mapped out the actual need for foreign troops.

On Feb. 14, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine was open to any peacekeeping mission.

On Feb. 16, The Telegraph reported that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer had expressed willingness to send British troops to Ukraine to enforce any peace agreement.

Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard also stated that Sweden does not rule out sending troops to Ukraine as part of a post-war peacekeeping mission.

On Feb. 18, The Guardian, citing defense sources, reported that UK officials believe ensuring Ukraine’s security with European support would require far fewer than the 100,000–150,000 troops previously estimated.

On Feb. 19, The Guardian reported that the UK and France were planning to establish a European force aimed at preventing future Russian attacks on Ukraine.

Western officials said the proposal includes fewer than 30,000 soldiers, with a likely focus on air and naval defense.

  1. I don’t think the orcs want to start fucking with the Aussies. They’ll take no shit from anyone.

  2. That’s very funny. The ruskies couldn’t even prevent a tiny island to be reconquered by a country with virtually no navy, and now they have the gall to threaten Australia. Wasn’t Snake Island enough of a humiliation?😂

    • The Japanese couldn’t beat the Aussies, so a gang of orcs lead by potato generals has no chance. Mind you, they need to find a few ships that could travel so far without sinking.

  3. “Russia has repeatedly made it clear that foreign military presence in Ukraine is absolutely unacceptable.

I FULLY AGREE, SO RUSSIA GO OUT OF UKRAINE.
