Russia strikes warehouse of publishing house and one of the largest book chains (video)

The fire engulfed the entire 10,000 sq m warehouse. After the attack, the bookstore chain suspended online orders.

On the night of August 1, a Russian drone attacked the warehouse of the Ukrainian publishing house “Ranok” in Kharkiv , burning thousands of books stored there.

This was reported by the general director of the publishing house Viktor Kruglov. “Arrival at the “Ranka” warehouse in Kharkiv. Textbooks are on fire,” he said.

According to the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleg Synegubov, the fire engulfed a publishing house warehouse with an area of 10,000 sq. m.

“One person was injured,” Sinegubov added.

The warehouse was also used by Knogoland, one of the largest bookstore chains in Ukraine, to store books and process customer orders.

“Everything is burning,” Igor Zarudko, a representative of “Knogoland”, wrote briefly on social media.

After the attack, the company temporarily suspended online orders, but its physical bookstores continued to operate.

Kruglov later added that the book warehouse is still burning.

“The book warehouse of the Ranok publishing corporation is burning. Two missile drones in one place. That is, this is a specially planned action to destroy textbooks and Ukrainian books… It was also the distribution center of Knygolenda. Tens of thousands of titles from all Ukrainian publishers. Millions of books,” Kruglov wrote.

This strike is the latest example of a growing number of Russian attacks on the Ukrainian book industry. According to the Ukrainian Book Institute, Russian strikes destroyed more than 1.5 million Ukrainian books in July alone.
