Russia says ready to help Ukraine extinguish Chernobyl wildfires

Moscow is ready to assist Kyiv in containing wildfires in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

According to spokeswoman for the Ministry, Maria Zakharova, Russia is ready to consider such an appeal in line with the traditional diplomatic practice.

At the moment, we received no requests for assistance from the Ukrainian side. If the Ukrainian colleagues submit the respective message, we will be ready to consider it, TASS quotes Zakharova as saying.

Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitriy Peskov said that the Emergency Ministry is continuously monitoring the situation with the fire in the Chernobyl area in Ukraine.

Wildfires were reported near the infamous defunct nuclear power plant on April 4. On April 7, the fires were covering 86 acres of territory and have recently been reported less than two miles from the nuclear waste storage site.

The Ukrainian authorities, however, said that there is no danger of the wildfires spreading to the storage.

  1. Could it be that someone intentionally set those fires in an attempt to destroy Russia and Ukraine’s weapons, so that the USA could carry out Wars without the threat of retaliation?

  2. Maria admits Russia is behind those fires. Double speech from the Kremlin………………..but this language I always translate in plain English!

    • Typical of the Moskali to start a crisis then ride in on their white horses to save the day
I hope the Administration told them, “You want to help? Tell all Moskali to go home, then find out which of them started the fires and incinerate them on Red Square.”
