In Russia we intend to simplify the procedure for admission of foreigners into the Russian citizenship.
This was reported by Kommersant with reference to sources in the working group on the implementation of the Concept of State Migration Policy.
According to the amendments to the Law on Citizenship of the Russian Federation, which are being prepared for consideration by the State Duma, it will be possible to obtain Russian citizenship without renouncing the existing other citizenship.
The group for the implementation of the Concept of State Migration Policy includes representatives of various departments and parliamentarians was created in March 2019 by order of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
The group is called upon to attract as many new citizens as possible, from 5 million to 10 million. It is planned to solve the problem through changing migration regimes and reforming the institution of citizenship.
The point is to recognize as invalid paragraph ” g” of Part 1 of Art. 13 of the Law on Citizenship of the Russian Federation. According to him, one of the conditions for foreign citizens to acquire Russian citizenship is the renunciation of their other citizenship, the article says.
“ It is proposed to exclude from the law the requirement that an applicant for Russian citizenship apply to the competent authority of a foreign state with a statement about renouncing his other citizenship, including for persons recognized as native speakers of the Russian language,” the press service of the Russian government said.
The deputy speaker of the lower house, Pyotr Tolstoy, said in a commentary to the publication that the government was ” waiting for the bill .”
“ We want to close this issue in the spring session, so that everyone can become Russian citizens. And accordingly, what will Russia do? She will protect her citizens, ”said Tolstoy.
The head of the Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Leonid Kalashnikov said that Art. 13 of the Law on Citizenship “may also expect other changes – on the cancellation of the requirement for a foreigner who seeks citizenship of the Russian Federation for 5 years to stay continuously on the territory of the Russian Federation and the clause on the need to confirm the legal source of livelihood.
