Russia must bear responsibility for the war against Ukraine, there can be no impunity, – EU at the UN Security Council

The European Union insists on the need to hold the Russian leadership accountable for war crimes against Ukraine.

This is stated in the EU statement made at the UN Security Council meeting, Censor.NET reports with reference to Ukrinform.

“There can be no impunity. Russia and its leadership must bear full responsibility for waging a war of aggression and other most serious crimes under international law,” the European Union emphasizes.

According to the document, Ukraine has demonstrated its readiness to accept a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire without preconditions. “Instead of reciprocating, Russia has intensified its ruthless attacks on the civilian population of Ukraine and civilian infrastructure,” the statement said.

The European Union calls on Russia to demonstrate its readiness to achieve peace without further delay. It notes that “there can be no negotiations on Ukraine without Ukraine, and no negotiations that affect European security without Europe.”

The EU assures that it “stands ready to continue to play its full role,” noting that “unfortunately, last week was yet another demonstration of Russia’s lack of interest in a ceasefire.”

The European Union reaffirms its unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and will support Ukraine “as long as necessary.” Джерело: https://censor.net/ua/n3549721
