Russia has sustained 38,000 casualties trying to push Ukrainian forces out of Kursk Oblast over the past five months, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Jan. 6.
In his evening address, the president specified the figure includes nearly 15,000 Russian soldiers killed in action.
“Today marks exactly five months since the start of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ operation in [Russia’s] Kursk Oblast,” said Zelenskyy.
“We are maintaining a buffer zone and actively dismantling Russia’s military potential. The Russians have deployed their strong units to Kursk and are using soldiers from North Korea.”
The president noted that thanks to the operation in Kursk, Russia’s pressure on Ukraine’s Donetsk, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhya oblasts is less than it would have been otherwise.
Zelenskyy thanked Ukrainian soldiers who are “bringing the war back home to Russia and providing more security and strength to Ukraine.”
On Jan. 5, media reports suggested that Ukraine has resumed its offensive operations in Kursk Oblast, having spent the last several months defending against a Russian counteroffensive.

That has made a hole in the 50,000 orcs and 10,000 norks that are in Kursk. It’s time the media had a recount and started to do a little research before publishing the same figures they have been repeating for months.
The rat nazi and his murder gang intend to continue their genocide until Ukraine is under total putinaZi control. That’s the reality. They will look to achieve their demonic objectives at ANY cost. The only cost that works for Ukraine is when they consistently kill orcs at a rate that spectacularly exceeds putlerstan’s ability to generate fresh orcs.
And they need to do this at a kill rate of at least 8-1. Because of putler’s resources, they only reach parity at 4:1.
Another way to shorten the genocide is to bring the putinaZi economy to its knees. Now that is doable, but no one in the west seems to have the stomach for it.
When ruZZians are starving, rioting, diseased and desperate, then we will see a change. No sign of that for now, because of the recalcitrance of the west.
Thirty-eight thousand casualties, and only half of Kursk was taken back. Now, they’re losing more than gaining.
