Russia is running out of gasoline, drivers are standing in kilometer-long queues at gas stations: how Ukrainian drones worked

16.09.2025

There is a serious shortage of gasoline in Russia. The main reason is the attack of Ukrainian drones on oil refineries. Because of this, in some regions, gas stations do not have the popular A-95 fuel, there are also problems with A-92. Long lines are forming, and gasoline is being sold with coupons.

In general, gas prices have risen significantly across Russia. But the authorities do not acknowledge the problem, and propagandists on social media claim that the reason for everything is the season and tourists, even in the Far East. They also talk about a “conspiracy of monopolists.”

Ukrainian drones visited 12 refineries in the Russian Federation

Russia has a serious shortage of gasoline. Ukrainian drones have been regularly “visiting” major Russian refineries since the beginning of August. The Novokuybyshevsk, Ryazansk (twice), Afipsk (twice), Saratov (twice), Volgograd (twice), Syzran (twice), Novoshakhtinsky, Kuybyshevsk, Krasnodar, Ilya, Novo-Ufa, and Kirishi refineries were attacked.

As a result of the strikes in the Russian Federation, gasoline production decreased by almost 20%. And this could not but affect the sales market.

Prices have increased in many regions. Now a liter of A-95 in the Russian Federation costs an average of 64.7 rubles per liter (33 UAH). A-92 – 60.1 rubles (30 RUB). The growth since the beginning of the year was 7%, which is significant. However, the situation is much worse in the occupied territories. For example, in Crimea, A-95 is sold for 72.27 rubles (36 UAH).

Who “drank” all the gasoline?

Russians complain that gasoline has become a shortage. To fill up your car’s tank, you have to stand in lines for 2-3 hours. In addition, gas stations have long since posted ads that fuel is sold with coupons.

“These are coupons for bosses and deputies? Can we walk?” – a resident from the Far East is indignant.

In the Kuriles and Sakhalin, as recently as August, only 10 liters were poured into one tank. In the Khabarovsk Territory and Primorye, drivers are lining up and waiting for several hours to fill up.

“I came to the gas station, and I only got 5 liters of gasoline. Because people fill up full tanks and take canisters. Ukrainian drones are disabling our refineries one by one, but the owners are not even trying to protect them. Probably, the fuel shortage is being created artificially to raise prices. Yesterday they said on TV that they had set quotas – 20 liters per day per person. I ask you, Vladimir Vladimirovich, to take measures and stop the rise in gasoline prices,” the Russian woman is addressing the Russian president.

The Russian government does not want to officially admit that the gasoline problems are caused by Ukrainian drone attacks. Russians are told that the shortage is supposedly caused by seasonality and tourists.

“What kind of tourists have we got in the Far East that drank all the gasoline?” asks a resident of the region.

But the authorities are not giving up, and bots on social media are spreading the idea that a “conspiracy of monopolists” is to blame for everything. They say that businessmen conspired to raise gasoline prices, so they are deliberately creating a fuel shortage.

At the same time, at the end of July, an export ban was introduced for companies that produce gasoline in volumes exceeding 1 million tons per year. Now it will be extended to September.

But this is unlikely to bring significant relief to consumers, since Ukrainian drones have disrupted production of 40-50 thousand tons per week, which is more than exports.

The Russian authorities also forced producers to freeze gasoline prices, but this led to an even greater collapse.

“I drove past several gas stations in the evening, there is no 95th gasoline anywhere. But there are groups on Telegram where you can order 20 liters of gasoline, for such a canister they ask from 80 to 100 rubles per liter. The more impudent the seller, the higher the price. If someone needs to go somewhere, for example, to work, they take taxi drivers. Accordingly, the price of a taxi has already jumped by 25-30%,” says a resident of Taganrog.

In other regions of the Russian Federation, residents also report that while the authorities are scratching their heads, a black market for gas stations has already sprung up. Prices are high, but it’s better than nothing at all.

“Such sellers say that they work at gas stations at night to have time to stock up on fuel, and then sell it much more expensively. But I don’t believe it, most likely, these are their own gas station employees who have established a profitable business,” says the Russian.

Russians curse the authorities and monopolists, and they also understand perfectly well that the Russian Federation is to blame for the war, but they are afraid to speak out about it or protest. Because they will have to spend several years in a colony.

  1. This is great! But, the pressure must be kept up and even increased. Mafia land must burn and run out of fuel.
