This is Korea at night, view from space. Compare South to North. Literally darkness vs light. Thatβs the difference between 2 worlds: West and Russia. The founder of Kim dynasty (Kim Il Sung) was an officer of Russian army, his son Kim Jong Il was born in 1941 and his original name was Yuri Irsenovich Kim. South Korea was supported by USA investments, had gone through decades of corruption, but now itβs one of the world leading economies.
A similar picture is with Germany. Western part was supported by US, Eastern part was occupied by USSR. Even now, after over 30 years since the reunification, there is a significant difference in the economy between the regions. And there is a similar satellite photo of Berlin at night, you can see which part was ruled by Russians.
There are many other smaller examples. Look at Karelia the USSR took from Finland, and compare it with Finland. Look at 4 disputed Japanese island and compare them with Japan. Look at the regions occupied by Russia recently, like Abkhazia and South Ossetia in Georgia. And finally, look at Donbas in Ukraine. Before 2014, it was one of the richest regions of Ukraine, they built a new modern Donbas Arena Stadium that was hosting EUR 2012 Soccer championship. That was a flourishing place before Russia came. Everything was looted and destroyed, middle class moved away (many businesses moved to other regions of Ukraine, I remember lots of new residents buying houses near Kyiv in 2014-2015). Now, Donbas is an economical disaster, the most depressive place in Ukraine. I doubt it may recover to the previous level even if Russia goes away.
Russia is Anti-Midas, it turns to rubbish whatever it touches. And it wonβt invest anything into the conquered territories, it will just suck the resources until nothing is left, and then move further like locusts. Unlike USA, Russia has no successful projects similar to S.Korea, W.Germany or Japan. They only bring ruins.
So whoever is siding with Russia against the βimperialistic Westβ and has some romantic vision of Russia, think about it. You canβt avoid the touch of Anti-Midas if you are dealing with him.

Russia means darkness, disgrace and pain. Ukraine have chosen to be in the light, but Russia still wants that Ukraine remains in the same darkness of USSR.

This is exactly what a few bright people are saying all along to convince politicians and other criminals to increase the level of military and non-military support to Ukraine!
Volodymyr Kukharenko makes an excellent point by comparing what “Russian liberation and denazification” brings!
If we, for now specifically the USA, are falling short in the Military Support of Ukraine, we don’t have to worry about rebuilding Ukraine since Russia is used to own pieces of land that lays in ruins.
Russia will own Ukraine, again, and the people will enjoy the “Russian liberation and denazification” demonstrated during the “Russian Special Military Operation” in Ukraine for the second time since February 2022.
When the moment was there for us to act and wipe the Russian Military from the face of the earth we didn’t act because we don’t learn from our history and always completely misjudge our own expertise of let’s say “the Kremlin”. Old weaponry kills too and if you have a lot of old stuff you still can kill a lot of people!
How proud are we that we as good people let Evil have its Triumph again since we only talk about it but dramatically fail to do something about it?!

And another brilliant post from Volodymyr from yesterday:
βMoskow is not Russiaβ β thatβs a popular saying in Russia. It means that there is a great difference in welfare and level of life between Moskow and the rest of the country. All money from all regions flow to Moskow, some go to Saints Petersburg (which is called the βsecond capitalβ), less go to several big cities, and the rest of the country lives in complete poverty. To get the idea, see what pictures Google shows if you enter “Russian province” in Russian: https://t.ly/gQMGf
You cannot just come to Moskow, rent an apartment, and live there as in any other city, you have to register, or you have to leave in 90 days. Much like you have to do when you go abroad (e.g. my US visa lets me stay in US 90 days).
So Moskow treats other regions like 19th-century metropolis was treating overseas colonies: suck the resources and money. For example, Dagestan has huge resources of freshwater lakes, but villages there have no water supply, they are using trucks to deliver water to people. They have really big deposits of oil and are the only non-freezing Russian port in Caspian Sea. But Dagestan is one of the poorest regions, and serving in the army seems to be the only possible social lift for the young men. And many are coming to die in Ukraine.
In the current war, they conscript mostly from the poorer regions, and Moskow continues to live as normal. And itβs nothing new: even in WW2, 40% of Moskow male population were reserved from war. I remember a talk with an old woman who told me that she was serving as a medic, and she was taken from Siberia, and on her way through Moskow she saw that many young women of her age were not touched.
If you go 100 miles away from Moskow, youβll see real Russia. Itβs more like a
the setting of a post-apocalypse movie: everything is old and hardly holds together, as if the surviving people trying to move on after the collapse of
civilization.
About 10 years ago, I had lunch in a tavern in Cyprus, and I had a small talk with the owner. He said to me βRussians are richβ. I replied to him that he was just making a sampling mistake. Russians that come to him are rich, but 70% of them do not even have a passport to travel abroad. About 40 million of them (thatβs equal to the population of Ukraine) do not even have normal toilets, they are doing things in a wooden shed outside, with a hole in the ground. When they got into Ukrainian villages, many of them were stealing toilets and were surprised that we had them in our houses.
And I often hear from Westerners: βI have Russian friends and they are differentβ. Of course, they are different, they belong to the minority that is able to come to you, and absorb at least some part of your culture and values. But they are not average Russians. You are very unlikely to ever meet them unless they come to you on tanks. And if it happens, you’ll become their “province” too. Look what they did with Karelia after taking it from Finland, 4 occupied Jaanese islands etc.
