Russia is not actually winning on the battlefield, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Keith Kellogg said at a conference in Kiev, noting that the American leader asked him this question before the summit with Putin.
“Is Russia winning? That’s a great question because President Trump asked me that question in the Oval Office about six weeks ago. The same question. And I said, ‘Mr. President, don’t listen to me. Your Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan Kaine, is waiting outside. He’s standing by the car. Bring him in, ask him about it. He’s your top military adviser,'” Kellogg said.
He noted that both he and Kaine told Trump the same thing – there was no talk of a Russian victory.
“Dan said the same thing. Are they (the Russians) winning? No. They are not winning. And Putin can say he is winning as much as he wants.”
He stressed that in reality Russia is losing this war.
“If Putin were winning, he would be in Kyiv, west of the Dnieper, in Odessa, and he would change the government. In fact, Russia is losing this war.”
