In WW2 USSR killed over at least 900k of their own soldiers. It’s more than US and UK lost in battles together. If you take official data, 284 344 were sentenced to execution, 157 593 were officially executed. But it does not count those who were killed by NKVD when they were retreating or deserting in battles. Soviets were just shooting those who retreated after unsuccessful attacks, and those attacks were unsuccessful mostly because Soviet troops were poorly equipped and had almost no training. Also, it was a convenient way to get rid of other ethnicities. General Zhukov said about Ukrainians (who were over 30% of Soviet troops): “the more of them that die, the less we will have to throw to concentration camps”. My own great-grandfather perished in one of such units.
 
Do you think it’s different now? Not really. Russia still uses “meat assaults”, sending poorly equipped recruits first, they keep dying but advance a bit, and then trained troops come to play. And most of their army is being drafted from poorer regions, many of each are populated by ethnic minorities. And of course, they took as many men as they could from Ukrainian territories occupied by them in 2014. At the same time, Moscow lives like normal, they are not much involved in the war. And like before, they are shooting their own soldiers who refuse to attack or choose to retreat or surrender to Ukraine. There are lots of evidence.
 
If you think it is going to change, you are just too naive, they can’t live other way. They will continue this tactic. If we have “peace” now, we will have another war tomorrow, and most of Ukrainians on the occupied lands will be forced to fight against Ukraine, exactly as it happened after 2014. So anyone telling that “ceasefire now” will save lives was either born yesterday and has no clue or simply serves Kremlin.
 
Russia in its current state must be defeated, or it will crawl like a cancer… And don’t think you are far away from it, the metastases are already everywhere, they finance ultra-rights and ultra-lefts, buy politicians and journalists in every Western country.
