Russia has imposed sanctions against 100 Canadian citizens, including a number of figures of Ukrainian origin, in particular, the grandson of the leader of the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists, Stepan Bandera.

Quote: “In response to Prime Minister Trudeau’s regime and its ongoing practice of imposing sanctions against Russia’s leadership, politicians and parliamentarians, business representatives, experts and journalists, cultural figures, as well as all those whom the Canadian Russophobic authorities consider undesirable, we are reciprocally closing the entry for 100 Canadian citizens. Among them are high-ranking officials, businessmen, activists of numerous pro-Bandera [one of the ways Russian propaganda refers to everyone who supports Ukraine] organisations, media and financial institutions that are directly involved in the formation of an aggressive anti-Russian course,” the ministry announced.

Among the officials and politicians on the list are Chief of Communications Security Establishment of Canada Caroline Xavier; Member of the Government and House of Commons of Canada, former Attorney General Peter MacKay; and former Premier of Quebec Jean Charest.

The sanctions also targeted Orest Dzhulynskyi and Orest Protsiv, the sponsors of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, as well as Yudzhyn Tsaraska and Liuba Tsaraska, the founders of the Zaraska Foundation; the founder and board members of the Migal Family Foundation, representatives of the Ukrainian Credit Union and the Canada-Ukraine Foundation.

Besides them, the list includes Stepan Bandera’s grandson Stephan, as well as actor Jim Carrey and actress Katherine Winnick.

Earlier on Monday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced plans to provide Ukraine with USD $500 million in additional military aid and to impose additional sanctions against Russia.
