The Russian Orthodox Church wants to prevent an “enemy invasion.”
Bryansk clergymen made a tour around Bryansk with the Svenskaya Icon of the Mother of God to “protect” the city from the Ukrainian army.
The Bryansk diocese reported on a car procession during which priests of the Russian Orthodox Church read the Akathist to the icon. The prayer was “for the salvation of the Fatherland and native Bryansk region from enemy invasion.”
“Prayers to this icon led to the retreat of Napoleon’s troops in 1812. The residents of Bryansk, having learned that they were in danger, took the miraculous Svensk icon of the Mother of God and carried it in a religious procession through the city. During the procession, good news arrived: the enemy had retreated,” the report says.
