Russia has a shortage of “Pantsirs”: how the aggressor country is trying to patch holes in air defense

04/13/2026

Russia has a shortage of modern air defense systems, in particular Pantsir complexes. Against the backdrop of active strikes by Ukrainian drones, the aggressor country is forced to look for alternative solutions to protect its territories.

One of these steps was the use of so-called hybrid air defense systems, as reported by Advisor to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Serhiy “Flash” Beskrestnov.

According to him, Russia is relying mainly on anti-aircraft missile systems to counter Ukrainian long-range strikes. This includes drone attacks, which are increasingly hitting targets deep inside Russian territory.

At the same time, existing air defense systems, including Pantsir complexes, are not enough to cover the entire country. This creates vulnerabilities that Ukrainian forces actively exploit.

“Pantsir” is one of the key elements of the Russian short-range air defense, designed to protect important objects from aerial threats, including drones and cruise missiles. Its shortage forces the Russian command to redistribute resources and leave some territories less protected.

Against the backdrop of a shortage of standard complexes, Russia has begun to use non-standard solutions. This involves the creation of so-called hybrid air defense systems that combine elements of different types of weapons.

In particular, in the Russian city of Orel, a car launcher adapted to launch R-77-1 air-to-air missiles was spotted. Under normal conditions, such missiles are used by aircraft to destroy air targets.

Their installation on ground platforms indicates attempts to compensate for the lack of specialized anti-aircraft systems. At the same time, the effectiveness of such solutions remains questionable, since they are not intended to fully operate as part of ground air defense.

Experts note that the increase in the number of Ukrainian long-range strikes is forcing Russia to adapt its defenses. At the same time, these adaptations are often temporary and do not solve the problem comprehensively.

“As is known, in the fight against our deep strikes, Russia is relying on anti-aircraft and missile air defense. There are not enough Pantsirs for the entire country, and hybrid systems have begun to appear. For example, a car launcher for R-77-1 air-to-air missiles was spotted in the city of Orel,” the minister’s advisor noted.

As OBOZ.UA wrote,  the Defense Forces recently struck the Tor air defense system, an oil pumping station, and a number of enemy logistics facilities.

It was also reported that, according to estimates by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, in March  the enemy’s losses increased by 29%  compared to February.

  1. Making things worse for the cockroaches is that a very large quantity of these so-called air defense systems are placed all around putler’s mansion in Valdai.

“…Russia is relying mainly on anti-aircraft missile systems to counter Ukrainian long-range strikes. This includes drone attacks…”

This means that combating Ukraine’s drone swarms is a very expensive endeavor for the roaches.

  2. Why are they complaining about Pantsir? Even when they have a good supply of them, they dont work.

BTW, today is the 4th anniversary of the sinking of the Moskva by Ukraine.

Glory to Ukraine! Glory to its heroes!
