As a result of the attack, only one power line to the ZNPP remained, the ministry reported.

As a result of enemy shelling, the temporarily occupied  Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant lost power to one of the two external power transmission lines connecting it to the unified power system of Ukraine, the Ministry of Energy reported .

It is noted that one of the power lines of the ZNPP was knocked out as a result of the attack.

“Currently, the station receives electricity from only one power transmission line. The provision of external power to the station, necessary for safe operation, is again under threat. In the event of a complete disconnection from the power system at the ZNPP, another blackout may occur, which will pose a serious threat to radiation safety,” the Ministry of Energy emphasized.

The ministry added that as soon as the security situation allows, energy workers will do everything possible to restore power to the ZNPP as soon as possible.

It is emphasized that the deoccupation of the station is a guarantee of its safe operation.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the ZNPP has already experienced a complete blackout 8 times and has repeatedly found itself on the verge of a blackout.

Occupation of Zaporizhzhia NPP: current news

As UNIAN reported, the occupiers announced the preparation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to generate electricity according to Russian standards. Also this year, the plant plans to receive a “Russian license” to operate unit No. 1.

The NSDC’s Center for Countering Disinformation responded to these actions of the Russian leadership regarding the Ukrainian ZNPP, noting that in this way the Russian Federation is trying to create a picture of the “gradual integration” of the ZNPP into the legal field of the Russian Federation.

At the same time, attention was drawn to the fact that the station is not currently generating electricity, and Russia does not have the technical capacity to operate it independently without Ukrainian resources and specialists. Therefore, such statements are another propaganda maneuver by the Russian Federation. Moscow seeks to create the illusion of de facto jurisdiction over the Ukrainian strategic object in order to strengthen its negotiating position, the Central Power Plant said.

Russian forces captured the Zaporizhzhia NPP and its satellite city of Energodar in March 2022, at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. After the occupation, the Russians militarized the facility.

Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and American leader Donald Trump discussed the possibility of resuming the operation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP .

The White House stated that US President Donald Trump offered Ukraine “American ownership” of nuclear plants, which would be the “best protection” for them.
