According to the treaty, Russia and the DPRK help each other in repelling armed aggression against them.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin signed the law on the ratification of the military pact with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea . This is reported by the TASS agency .

The document was approved by both chambers of the Russian parliament – the State Duma on October 24 and the Federation Council on November 6. The pact itself was concluded in Pyongyang on June 19 during a personal meeting between the Russian and North Korean dictators.

The Russian authorities have never explained in detail what this document is. But North Korea published its text in the summer, which makes it clear that it is a full-fledged military alliance.

What is the defense treaty between Moscow and Pyongyang

The text, released by Pyongyang over the summer, includes the following key points, among others:

• the parties provide each other with mutual assistance and coordinate actions in the event of a threat of armed aggression against one of the parties to the contract;
• the parties immediately provide each other with “military and other assistance by all available means” in the event of an armed attack on one of them;
• the parties will not enter into treaties with third countries directed against the other party to this treaty, and refuse to give third countries their territory to attack the other party to the treaty.
