Ukraine is aware of at least 345 cases of execution of Ukrainian servicemen by Russian occupiers. This was stated by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Lubinets during a briefing, an UNIAN correspondent reports.

According to him, these are cases where Ukrainian fighters did everything necessary to surrender.

“This means that they laid down their weapons, came out with their hands raised, lay down on the ground, showing that they were not continuing the fighting. Russian soldiers examined them and made sure that they did not have any weapons. As a rule, they remove the equipment of those who still have bulletproof vests. We have recorded cases where they completely demand that they take off their clothes. After that, they force them to lie down on the ground and shoot the Ukrainian military at close range,” Lubinets said.

He added that legally this is interpreted as the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war. According to him, according to the Geneva Convention, the executed Ukrainian servicemen performed all the actions that earned them the status of prisoner of war.

“The Russians are doing this deliberately, moreover, according to our information, this is a common practice used by the Russian military,” Lubinets noted.

Recall, earlier Lubinets also stated that 95% of Ukrainian prisoners of war were subjected to systematic torture in Russian prisons . According to him, 2,442 Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilian hostages are currently being criminally prosecuted in Russia.
