Russia develops prototype of hypersonic missile for Su-57 stealth fighter

The cutting-edge aircraft may be armed with the air-to-ground kind of projectile, Russian Defense Ministry says

Russia’s Sukhoi Su-57 stealth fighter could be equipped with a hypersonic air-to-ground missile; the projectile can fit in the aircraft’s internal weapon bay, which would make the fighter even harder to detect by the radars. The Diplomat reported that, quoting a source in the Defense Ministry.

“In December 2018, a defense industry source revealed that the Su-57 may be armed with a hypersonic air-to-surface missile with “characteristics” similar to that of the Kh-47M2 Kinzhal (“Dagger”) air-launched ballistic missile (ALBM). The source did not provide any additional details regarding the missile. However, given the large size of the Kinzhal, the new hypersonic missile will likely be smaller given that it reportedly fits inside the Su-57’s internal weapons bay”, reads the article.

The outlet reiterates that Kinzhal “is being integrated with the MiG-31K interceptor aircraft, a modified MIG-31BM”, which means that Russia already uses opportunities for landing a tactical nuclear strike from the air.

“There is also speculation that the Su-57 will receive a new air-to-air hypersonic missile, an upgraded variant of the R-37 (K-37/RVV-BD) missile, capable of reaching a top speed of Mach 6 and an estimated operational range of over 300 kilometers”, The Diplomat wrote, referring to a source in the Russian defense industry.

  1. The Indian Air Force is continuing to suffer non-combat losses to its aircraft, reducing the size of its already small fleet of carrier-based aircraft.

A MiG-29K carrier-based fighter recently crashed in India. Fortunately, the pilot was able to eject safely. The incident took place in Goa, where INS Hansa, India’s main naval air station, is situated.

  2. To say that all of the recent claims of advanced Russian military capabilities are highly questionable would be the understatement of the year .

  3. The Ruskies are hyper-intoxicated with hyper missiles. A slow missile that gets through defenses and HITS its target is still far superior. And, maybe it would be a good idea to make a plane that works as it should … and tank, and aircraft carrier, and a country.

  4. Even my battleship from 1588 looks more airworthy than this junk. And it is not even designed to fly, but only to erase the existence of some Spaniards.
