During the night, substations of the Khmelnytskyi and Rivne nuclear power plants were hit.

During a massive attack on the night of November 8, Russia struck substations supplying electricity to the Khmelnytskyi and Rivne nuclear power plants.

Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha wrote about this on the X network , calling on the IAEA to urgently convene its Board of Governors.

“During today’s attacks, Russia again targeted substations that supply electricity to the Khmelnytskyi and Rivne nuclear power plants. These were not random strikes, but well-planned ones. Russia is deliberately jeopardizing nuclear safety in Europe. We call for an urgent meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors to address these unacceptable risks,” he wrote.

Sibiga also called on all states that value nuclear security, particularly China and India, to demand that Russia stop its reckless attacks on nuclear energy, which could lead to catastrophic consequences.

“Global pressure must be exerted to force Moscow to stop nuclear blackmail,” the minister emphasized.

Russia’s Strikes on Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant Infrastructure

As a reminder, the IAEA previously confirmed Russian attacks on substations critical to nuclear safety and security in Ukraine. Agency teams reported that personnel at the South Ukraine and Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plants lost access to one of their external power lines.

Furthermore, an IAEA team at the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant reported that the plant had reduced the power of two of its four units at the request of the grid operator.

Strikes on energy facilities

Furthermore, Centrenergo reported that the Russian strike on the night of November 8th resulted in the loss of power generation at all energy facilities.

The company added that the missiles and drones targeted thermal power plants that had already been restored after previous attacks. Centrenergo emphasized that it would continue to restore and repair its thermal power plants.
