Russia continues to bomb Kyiv: homes damaged, casualties rising

On the night of September 17, Russian forces struck several districts of Kyiv. The attack resulted in hits and injured 12 people, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

Previously, the Ukrainian Air Force warned of the takeoff of a MiG-31K, the threat of the use of ballistic weapons, and the movement of missiles towards the capital.

According to Klitschko, debris fell in several places in the Dniprovskyi district. An office building and a residential building were damaged. Debris also fell in warehouses and near a gas station. Furthermore, the glass and façade of a three-story office building were damaged in one area.

“In the Svyatoshinsky district, preliminary reports indicate a non-residential building was hit. Windows were also blown out in several residential buildings. In the Solomensky district, preliminary information indicates a warehouse building was destroyed. There is no fire, according to preliminary reports,” the statement reads.

Klitschko also reported reduced water pressure in the Solomensky, Holosiivsky, and Svyatoshinsky districts. He clarified that specialists were investigating the cause and added that they were restoring water pressure to the affected districts of the capital.

“Currently, there are 12 casualties in the capital as a result of the enemy attack. Among the wounded are two children, aged 10 and 12. Nine injured are in hospitals,” the mayor said.

Updated at 7:30 AM. This morning, the Kyiv City State Administration reported , following an air raid alert triggered by Russian drones, that, according to preliminary information, a strike on a warehouse building in the Podilskyi district was detected.

Updated 08:05. Klitschko reported that the number of victims in the capital has risen to 16. Among them are two children.

Updated at 8:55 AM. According to hromadske , during a missile attack on Kyiv, Russian forces destroyed a kindergarten in the Dniprovskyi district. The shelling shattered windows, damaged walls, and demolished a fence. A crater from a missile impact is visible near the kindergarten building.

Updated at 9:35 AM. Klitschko reported that there are already 18 casualties in Kyiv. He emphasized that the enemy continues to attack the capital.

Russian strikes on Ukraine

As UNIAN previously reported, on September 16, Russian forces completely destroyed the Olena Zelenska Foundation’s humanitarian aid warehouse. The warehouse contained humanitarian aid purchased and received from partners for distribution to children, families, and institutions across Ukraine based on their needs. Among the items destroyed were generators, household appliances, laptops, tablets, e-books, medical equipment, and much more.

Russia also attacked the Kvartal 95 studio’s prop warehouse. A large number of sets and costumes were lost. No one was injured.

The day before, Russian forces struck a Kyiv-Mykolaiv passenger train three times between Novyi Bug and Bashtanka. Ukrzaliznytsia’s monitoring team issued an order in advance to evacuate the locomotive and train crews, as well as passengers. Therefore, no one was injured.
