Moscow and New Delhi have intensified consultations on defense issues.

Russia is exploring the possibility of allocating the investments needed to produce Su-57 fighters in India, ANI writes.

It is stated that India needs at least two to three squadrons of fifth-generation aircraft. The main contenders are the Russian Su-57 and the American F-35.

Because of this, Moscow, eager to present its platform, has undertaken research to understand how best to create production facilities in India.

According to officials, the Nashik complex of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, which already produces the Su-30MKI under license, could be repurposed for the production of the Su-57 if necessary.

It is indicated that in order to reduce costs and speed up the deadlines, it is not excluded that other production centers where equipment of Russian origin is manufactured may be involved.

Notably, this news came as Moscow and New Delhi expanded defense consultations, despite the worsening relations between India and the US over tariffs and harsh rhetoric from the US administration.

It is noted that Russian officials have repeatedly offered India the Su-57. There was also talk of high-tech air defense systems such as the S-400 and S-500.

The publication notes that India participated in the Russian fifth-generation fighter project more than a decade ago, but withdrew from it due to disagreements. However, now the resumption of cooperation may take place “in view of the global situation.”

The US is said to be pushing for India to induct the F-35 despite New Delhi’s efforts to push its own fifth-generation fighter program. After receiving clearance in 2024, the Indian aircraft is expected to make its first flight by 2028 and could enter service around 2035.
