Fire in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia

On the night of June 30, loud explosions were heard in a number of regions of Russia , allegedly due to an attack by “36 Ukrainian Armed Forces drones.” At the same time, a powerful fire broke out in warehouses with paint and varnish materials in Nizhny Novgorod.

Smoke from the fire could be seen for many kilometers, and Russians complained that their country had been hit by a “flash mob” of fires. On Telegram channels they distributed a video of a large-scale fire, which local rescuers were unable to localize for a long time.

Thus, the governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, said that Russian air defense shot down four aircraft-type drones over the Trubchevsky district that night. According to him, “there were no casualties or destruction.”

The head of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, also assured about the elimination of drones. And at the same time, there is a defeat in Gayvoron due to the UAV strike: two of them allegedly attacked an apartment building, where windows were broken in two apartments and a car was chopped up with debris.

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations assigned the fire, which covered an area of up to 1,000 square meters, the second rank of complexity. They confirmed that tanks with paint and varnish materials were burning, and there may be gas cylinders inside the buildings. Local firefighters were unable to localize the fire for a long time, and they did not say anything about victims.

The Russian Defense Ministry claims that on the night of June 30, their air defense systems “destroyed 36 Ukrainian Armed Forces drones.” In particular, 15 UAVs were allegedly shot down over the Kursk Region, nine over the Lipetsk Region, four over the Voronezh and Bryansk Regions, and two over the Oryol and Belgorod Regions. They did not comment on the large-scale fire in Nizhny Novgorod.

Later, the Russians reported another powerful fire, but this time in the Irkutsk region. There, in the city of Bratsk, a warehouse of finished products was burning on an area of 6,000 square meters.

As OBOZ.UA reported, the Russian capital has begun installing so-called anti-drone nets. This is how Moscow is trying to protect itself from Ukrainian drones, because it no longer relies on its own air defense and electronic warfare.
