The UN must return to its fundamental purpose of maintaining international peace and security, including through the peaceful resolution of conflicts, he said.

The United States is calling on UN member states to support a resolution it has proposed for the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The document takes into account Russian amendments to “map out a path to peace.”

This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on February 21, the State Department press service reports . The official called the resolution “simple and historic.”

Rubio stressed that the document is consistent with President Donald Trump’s view that the UN should return to its fundamental purpose of maintaining international peace and security, in particular through the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

“If the UN is truly committed to its original purpose, we must recognize that despite the challenges that arise, the goal of lasting peace remains achievable. By supporting this resolution, we affirm that this conflict is terrible, that the UN can help end it, and that peace is possible,” Rubio said.

The statement also said the moment had come to “commit ourselves” to ending the war and to create “real momentum for peace.”

  1. Spineless coward. If you want real peace, just supply Ukraine with the weapons. Appeasing putler will never bring peace, but of course the US are good at throwing Ukraine under the bus. This will be the 4th time since 1991.
