US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore is well-connected and a Trump “favorite.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio may leave his post to start preparing for the presidential race. One of the possible candidates for this position is considered US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore, The Washington Sun writes , citing its sources.

“With good connections and direct access to Trump, Gore is increasingly involved in high-level meetings, giving him influence that goes far beyond his ambassadorship. He is considered a key intermediary between Washington and much of Asia, as well as a confidant of Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The former head of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel maintains relationships with the entire Trump administration, playing a key role in the vetting and appointment of thousands of officials,” the publication notes.
Gore is being considered as a candidate for a number of influential positions, including the White House chief of staff and replacing Rubio as secretary of state.
Rubio has not publicly stated his intention to leave the administration, but some sources believe he may step down to prepare for future presidential races in 2028 or 2032.
Sergio Gore – what is known about him
Gore is a former senior White House aide and close Trump ally. The president “loves this guy,” a Trump adviser told The Sun.
As ambassador, Gore helped arrange a series of high-level visits to India, including by Rubio, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and then-Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll, and he used his dual role as ambassador and special envoy to participate in meetings with high-ranking foreign officials outside India, including Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Gore also played a key role in Rubio’s trip to Uzbekistan last month, part of the Trump administration’s efforts to bring the United States closer to Central Asian countries. Gore was born in the country when it was still part of the Soviet Union (a fact he has previously preferred not to acknowledge).
Two sources familiar with Gore’s working style say he shares Trump’s approach to foreign policy: focusing on deal-making and actively promoting American business.
Gore also publishes Trump books through his company and maintains a particularly close relationship with Donald Trump Jr.
Gore previously spent about a decade on Capitol Hill, mostly in the staff of Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.). In the White House Human Resources Office, Gore was responsible for selecting and vetting candidates for thousands of policy positions in government. During that time, he had a public falling out with Elon Musk, then an advisor to Trump.
